In early 2016, the historic Granary Burying Ground in downtown Boston, got a huge face lift. After years of rust and deterioration, the iron fence is now fully restored to its original beauty! Woven Steel was proud to be a part of this collaborative restoration project with the City of Boston, and Kyle Zick Architects. The team was recognized when The Granary Burying Ground Entrance Gate and Fence won the 38th Annual Preservation Award. Awarded by Massachusetts Historical Commission.
This six-month project involved many challenges….one main issue for our staff was marrying centuries of past repairs, which were not always historically accurate, into one uniform restoration. Determinations had to be made as to what parts of the fence to fully replace and what parts to restore. We are very proud of the 600 feet of cast iron fence that now guard over so many of our founding fathers and early American poets, patriots, and statesmen.
Come take a stroll along the freedom trail to see this historical landmark and view the beautifully restored fence!
